Hex24: The Wedding of the Giantess Morwenna - Hex 2, 6

Brightly colored tents and temporary structures dot this hilly terrain, populated by visitors excited for the tournament or hoping to make a quick buck off the attendees.

The biggest tent is an Iron Cup outlet, a trading company with a writ from the Genius Loci to market luxury goods plundered from the furthest realms. They sell coffee, chocolate, tobacco, potions and other treats. The rest of the hex’s inhabitants tend to gather here.

The hydrocephalic Halfling phocomelus Rat King XIV sits on the counter in a rig that looks like a combination reclining chair and suspension harness, reading out news from across the world in a powerful brassy voice. Victims of the Hanged King’s psychic experiments, the Rat Kings are physically frail but powerful psychics, capable of telepathic communication with one another across infinite distance. Most of the survivors work for The Bellman, transmitting news, advertisements and high priority messages for wealthy clients. When not working broadcasting, XIV stays quiet to preserve his voice, writing with a stylus grasped in one flipper to communicate.

XIV is tended by his personal doctor Killingsted, 6th Level Cleric of Leper Heart, the 3rd level Magic User Maria who uses a modified casting of Read Magic to stenographically record everything XIV says, and the 3rd Level Half-Orc Croquette who protects him like the son she always wanted.

XIV can be hired to send messages to other Bellmen around the world but doing so is expensive, starting at 1,000 SP per word.

A party of adventurers is here to represent the Trade Wardens of Brazenkragg.
  • The crimelord Sam Sump is represented by the Level 4 Acrobat and speed freak Emily.
  • The retired general Jan Estoc is represented by the scalphunter and Level 5 Fighter Carnation.
  • The mage Hiram Xavier is represented by the jovial Flesh Golem Tukhachevsky.
The trio are looking for a likely candidate to back in the tournament, not overfond of the existing contestants. The idea is to marry someone to Morwenna who will be friendly to Brazenkragg’s interests. Bo Scanlon and Gita Lumier didn’t send representatives because they staunchly oppose establishing diplomatic relations with a Giant.

The Dark Creeper archaeologist Glorietta and her husband the Svirfneblin Menemen are here to investigate the ruins in the area before everything is looted and destroyed by the tournament participants. They don’t buy or sell magic items, but will trade what they have for items of equivalent value. Their brightly lit tent is guarded by an Invisible Stalker, who they feed coffee and cacao beans.

The sharply dressed Ettin Ikiataribattari lounges on a massive folding chair, sporting one male and one female head. They are autosexual and uninterested in marrying Morwenna, but love the spectacle and violence of the tournament. The Ettin’s wallet holds 2,350 SP in the silver coins of the Commonwealth and gold trade tokens from Isle of Sweat. The coins are too small for them to handle, most transactions are handled by their body servant Getty, a Level 3 Duergar who uses her twin gloves of Mage Hand and Prestidigitation for hard-to-reach stuff.

The traveling preacher Big Eclipse, Level 6 Cleric of O Sun and Great Moon, sells blessings and other religious services. He loves both honorable combat and treachery. Tell him a story of brave deeds or cunning exploits and he’ll cut you a sweet deal on spellcasting. He carries a Rod of Striking and a cursed Ring of Weakness, which he plans to offload on someone who really annoys him.
