You know this is not how things are supposed to be. Maybe you've always known. Maybe something happened that showed you. A crack in reality that granted a glimpse of another world which made the real world of dead end jobs and shrieking alarms and medical bills look like a drug induced nightmare. Maybe you wanted more. Maybe you were afraid. You thought you could get by if you just shut your mouth and played by the rules.
That's what they want. To keep you weak, scared and disorganized. To keep you quiet while they take what they want. While they selfishly hoard power that could solve everyone's problems if the parasites and bureaucrats and landlords just stepped out of the way.
Not you. You're not scared anymore. You're going to fight and you're going to win or die trying.
You're a domestic terrorist who works at KFC.
WHAT IS THIS?
This is Unknown Armies: The Colonel's Secret Coterie. A burgerpunk game about the magickal revolution. Join a conspiracy of minimum wage food service drones. Survive your first operation and become a psychic soldier in an underground war.
The
local Cadre has built up a base of power over the last few months,
using the restaurant as a front to feed the populace small doses of
magick in their food. The time is ripe for the next phase of the
operation: The subversion of mundane authority, the liquidation of
hostile underworld elements, control of critical occult infrastructure,
and the mobilization of the populace in support of the revolution. That
plus working the restaurant and surviving the cavalcade of entitled
squares and obnoxious freaks who make every retail job hell.
Blood magic. Scary monsters. Brainwashed cultists. Mad bombers. The snap of the deep fryer as a bubble of hot fat leaps out to kiss your face just below the eye. You aren't insane. You aren't stuck in a dead end job that will eventually kill you. You're workin' for the Colonel.
WHERE AND WHEN WILL YOU RUN IT?
I'm running this game in person for the Seattle RPG Variety Society. I'm either going to start in December or wait until January 2026 so the game doesn't go on hiatus immediately after starting. It will be a weekly game. I'm shooting for three hour sessions.
HOW DO I PLAY?
We'll use a simplified life path/in play character creation system that doesn't require the players to arrive with any rules knowledge or immediately master a complicated pregen. Recruits who survive their first operation will be initiated into the mysteries of the Colonel's Secret Coterie. This is the part where, with a better grasp of the mechanics after playing a session, players get to choose whether to be a wizard and what kind.
Unknown Armies 3e lets players make authorial contributions by adding content to the game world during character creation. Under ideal circumstances this creates a shared setting that the players are already invested in, but it causes problems when brand new players are asked to make authorial decisions about a game whose system, setting, tone and very premise they are not yet familiar with. Therefore I'm going to allow each player to contribute one item (character, group, location, monster, artifact...) to the corkboard on their second session.
WHAT CITY ARE WE TRYING TO TAKE OVER?
Stay tuned.
